An Introduction to Shamanic Journeying

Rough Hands is happy to present the first of a new seminar series: The Shamanic Journey. Attendees will be introduced to the concepts of the Shamanic Journey and will be given an opportunity to experience their own journey.

This is an opportunity for folks that have been curious about shamanic practices, fans of meditation techniques, or people brand new to the subject to get their feet wet in a supportive group setting. 

What is the Shamanic Journey?

The shamanic journey is the art of using rhythm and intention to enter an altered state of consciousness in order to connect with the spiritual dimension of reality.

To explain it simply, the shamanic journey is a blend of visualization and meditation following loose instruction while listening to a drumbeat. 

There are various times the soul might leave the body, during dreaming or to protect the soul from trauma. When a shaman is initiated onto the shamanic path, they usually learn how to send their soul forth intentionally, on the soul flight, which is commonly called a journey or the shamanic journey.

What can I expect from the seminar?

The seminar will be approximately 90 minutes split into 3 equal parts. 

The first 30 minutes will discuss the practice of journeying, setting expectations for your own journey, and getting everyone settled in the space. 

The second 30 minutes will be the actual journey itself. Attendees will be guided through the beginning of their journey and then allowed to explore on their own. 

The last 30 minutes will be integration. It is often wise to write down everything you experience during your journey, especially the bits that don’t immediately make sense. You will also have the opportunity to share experiences and feelings that came up, ask questions, with no pressure to share or not share.

Attendees should wear comfortable clothing, and bring something to cover their eyes (if you find it difficult keeping your eyes closed), a notebook and pen, and water.
